The section "Machinery Safety, Industrial Security and Implants" of the department Accident Prevention: Digitalisation - Technologies is concerned with equipping and controlling machinery and plant equipment (drive controls, safety components) and with evaluating it under the aspects of Industrial Security, functional and electrical safety. Another focus is the evaluation of electromagnetic fields (EMF) at the workplace of employees with and without implants.

Drive controls

The focal points in the field of "drive controls" are:

  • Researching and advising on the integration of safety functions in electronic controls for AC motors
  • Working out test guidelines and cooperating in the relevant standard-setting bodies

Equipping and controlling machinery and plant equipment

The focal points in the field of "equipping and controlling machinery and plant equipment" are:

  • Prevention of protective devices being bypassed – Development of aids for construction and operation of machines
  • Testing/certifying and advising on electrical and electronic controls of machines and plant
  • Testing/certifying and advising on electrical components of machines
  • Investigating accidents on machines and plant
  • Working out test guidelines and cooperating in the relevant standard-setting bodies

Safety components

The focal points in the field of "safety components" are:

  • Testing/certifying and advising on electromechanical and electronic safety components, including position switches, interlocking devices, proximity switches, revolution speed monitoring devices, position sensors, load-moment governors
  • Working out test guidelines and cooperating in the relevant standard-setting bodies

Security

The focal points in the field of "security" are:

  • Development of test specifications and work on standards committees
  • Research and consulting concerning functional safety and security in combination

Electromagnetic fields (EMF)

The focal points in the field of EMF are:

  • Participation in the development or revision of the regulations in the relevant committees
  • Research and project work on specific issues of the Social Accident Insurance Institutions
  • Measurement and assessment of EMF exposure at workplaces
  • Computer-based calculation and evaluation of the electric field strengths induced in the human body close to particularly strong EM field sources
