Complementing rehabilitation exercises for hand injuries with a virtual, game-based application (StableHandVR) for rapid reintegration into working life.

Project No. FF-FR 327

Status:

ongoing

Aims:

The aim of this research project is to develop a validated, virtual application for hand rehabilitation and to integrate it into the clinical process. The interactive and playful rehabilitation program is intended to increase motivation induced by positive stimuli in order to promote exercise outside the therapy session and thus increase the frequency and quality of exercise. Furthermore, it is possible to continuously monitor the patients performance and thus measure the progress of therapy.

Activities/Methods:

The therapy is to be performed during the inpatient stay by means of a virtual reality application (VR application), in which various hand movements and activities can be performed. In order to achieve optimal rehabilitation results in the subsequent outpatient therapy as well, the application shall be available to patients at a low cost in order to also provide a motivating exercise experience at home and simultaneously monitor the therapy progress remotely.
