Flight and migration represent the key challenges of the present time, at national and international level. Combating the causes of flight is one of the significant elements in current political discourses of the Federal Government and the European Commission.
The question of which role social protection can play as a solution to counteract the causes of flight and migration in a sustainable manner is the subject of the study titled "Social Protection as an alternative to migration?" which was initiated by the German Social Accident Insurance (DGUV).
The purpose of the study is to position social security, and thus the statutory accident insurance, as an important part of the solution in the area of flight and migration, thereby strengthening it overall.
The study was presented in Berlin (27 March 2018 at the DGUV) and in Brussels (19 June 2018) at the Representation of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia to the European Union within the scope of an event with a panel discussion and was very well received.
