Controlling cancerogenous Diesel particulate matter in workplace air needs direct reading devices. Test and validation of commercially available photoelectric aerosolsensors (PAS).
Testing of PAS in different versions under test stand and field conditions parallel to the coulometric method.
PAS is valid for controlling of air conditioning and in addition to the coulometric method for detection of time variations in DME-concentration. Reliable DME-monitoring should be possible with a combination of PAS and DC-sensor.

Description, key words:Coulometric investigation of diesel particulate matter in workplace air is expensive and does not allow time dissolution. Commercially available photo-electric aerosol sensors (PAS) investigate only elementary carbons, but proved in test and field conditions and compared with coulometric results a validity for DME-monitoring with limitations.
