The senate commission of the German Research Foundation requires new significant scientific knowledge in order to produce a classification of quartz dust in accordance with the actual risk to health. Goal: determining the risk of lung carcinomas for persons exposed to quartz dust (in connection with project BG02#004)
Epidemiological study: production of a study plan including inquiry and recording sheets; recording the data obtained from project BG02#004; evaluation of data; illustration and evaluation of results
No significant indication of an association between exposure to quartz dust and lung carcinomas; in the quarrymen's BG groups the 95 % confidence intervals of the relative risk (OR) during exposure were beyond the current valid MAK-value of 0.74 to 2.79, in the glass and ceramics BG groups from 0.4 to 1.2.
