When the revision of the standard DIN 4420 "Working and Service Scaffolds" was released, it became necessary to revise the regulations of the German Berufsgenossenschaften accordingly. Especially the increasing use of cladded scaffolds in practice had to be considered. In the BG-regulations anchorage forces for tubular scaffolds with couplers had to be shown in tables with the different standard and anchorage point intervals and the corresponding aerodynamic load values being indicated as a function of the building construction and the cladding of the scaffold.
Suitable geometric and loading parameters were registered. Approximate values had to be evaluated by using influence surfaces. The exact values appearing in the tables are calculated in the computer using theory of II. order. Anchorage forces are thus determined rectangular and parallel to the building front considering the different input parameters.
The forces acting on the anchorage points due to wind load were evaluated from the influence surfaces for scaffold types 1 to 6 with the corresponding standard intervals and according to the anchorage point intervals indicated in DIN 4420. The action of vertical forces in combination with the wind loads was calculated using theory of II. order. The results were summarised in tabular form and partly published in the BG-regulation BGR 167 (former ZH 1/534. 2) dealing with safety and health protection in connection with scaffolds, in particular tubular scaffolds with couplers. They should be considered when chosing anchorage systems.
