Esters play an important role as parts of solvent mixtures in chemical agents. The method utilised within the scope of the BG-measuring system for hazardous substances (BGMG) was developed already in the middle of the eighties. As far as DIN EN 482 "Workplace atmospheres - general requirements for the performance of procedures for the measurement of chemical agents" is concerned it is, however, not completely validated.
The new measurement procedure allows personal and stationary measurements. The sampling medium is activated charcoal. Desorption takes places with a ternary mixture of methylalcohol, methylene chloride and carbon disulfide. Analysis is made by gas chromatography with flame ionization detector (GC/FID). The detection limit comes to 1mg/m³ for a sampling time of two hours.
The measurement procedure is used as a standard in the scope of the BG-measuring system for hazardous substances - BGMG and it meets the requirements of DIN EN 482.
