Over 15 million of Germany’s 82 million residents have a so-called "migrant background". The majority of people with a migrant background living in Germany come from Turkey (approx. 14 %), the Russian Federation (8.4%), Poland (6.9%), Italy (4.1%) and Serbia and Montenegro (3.4%).
A considerable proportion of workers with a migrant background are involved in the tertiary sector, and in particular housekeeping, care and healthcare, the hotel and restaurant trade, construction, transport and manufacturing.
