In mid-August, the Turkish Social Security Institution (SGK) and the German Social Accident Insurance (DGUV) hosted a joint conference on various topics from the area of rehabilitation. As part of this event, to which representatives from Azerbaijan and Malaysia were also invited, the various national rehabilitation strategies were presented. A particular area of focus for the event was the importance of rehabilitation measures for the sustainable financing of social security systems, especially in light of increasing rates of inflation and the increasing burden on state and social welfare budgets.
During the conference, the cooperation between the German Social Accident Insurance (DGUV) and the Turkish Social Security Institution (SGK) was extended with the signing of a Joint Declaration of Intent. At the signing ceremony with SGK President Kürşad Arat, Dr. Edlyn Höller – Deputy Director General of the German Social Accident Insurance (DGUV) – emphasised the value of rehabilitation for society and the need for international exchange on these topics and other topics from the area of social security.
Some areas of focus in the new work programme include topics such as returning to work, case management and interlinking of rehabilitation and prevention, as well as the training of rehabilitation managers. The programme also aims to investigate which systemic approaches impact the area of rehabilitation, such as the principle of absolving employers of their liability to cover the costs resulting from occupational accidents or occupational diseases.
